"I don't want you dead. I want you alive. Alive and happy and with friends! Because, then . . . Then it doesn't have to be that way. It doesn't! You . . . You can change! I can change it . . . ! "

A curious boy and one of the first people Pokey spoke with upon arriving in Mayfield, Lucas hails from a future where most of the world was destroyed and the small remainder of mankind lived in a place known as the Nowhere Islands. Life would've been peaceful for Lucas and his family if it hadn't been for Pokey who, in the future, would proceed to decimate and conquer what remained of the Earth for his own amusement to cure the boredom he had due to his eternal life. Needless to say, Lucas wasn't happy for Pokey's arrival in Mayfield, though he'd never been fully hostile to this incarnation of Pokey.

On Pokey's part, Pokey first viewed Lucas with a mixture of curiosity and agitation, angered that the boy would hold something he hadn't yet done against him. As time has gone on and Pokey has learned at least something about empathy (as Lucas had hoped he would), Pokey's come to view Lucas primarily with a feeling of guilt due to what he's destined to do to him. For his part, Pokey's become determined to find a way to stop himself, not really for Lucas' sake as much as Pokey's own terror at the monster he's meant to become.

The two boys aren't on really on casual speaking terms with each other, though they occasionally talk when a situation might come up that forces it. It's unlikely this situation will change in the future.
