54 - Pokey Pocket - Action

[To say that Pokey had been feeling small since the conversations he'd had with the pod people on Tuesday wouldn't be an exaggeration. When it got to the point where he actually thought things seemed bigger? That was a bit much.

It didn't help that things seemed to be getting bigger throughout the entire day, either.]

[Action; 502 Ricardo Street]

[A slowly, increasingly shorter Pokey can be found wandering around the house early today. At first, he seems to be looking for, and gathering, a bunch of materials around the house: a couple of the chairs, a saw, some lengths of thin rope and glue. Every so often, he goes against a wall where he's been marking his height, making sure that he actually is shrinking. Each time he's found he's decreased an inch or two, he just stares at the wall. Hesitant. Uncertain.

Eventually, he can be found in the garage, cutting the legs off the chairs and measuring them before trying to tie them together. From the looks of it, he appears to be attempting to make a pair of make-shift stilts. Because that, of course, would be a practical solution to this.]

[Action; Around Town]

[By this point, Pokey is about the size of a four year old, and getting progressively smaller. This has not been a good week by any stretch of the imagination, and this? Is just making matters worse.

So have a pint-sized Pokey angrily stomping through the streets. It's clearly the town's fault that things are this bad and, so clearly, he needs to take his anger out on anything he can find that isn't another person. Be it something you have on your lawn, or your car, or your mailbox, or just tipping and kicking your trashcan down, spreading all that crap throughout the yard. He doesn't care. He's been good lately, and he needs this.

And besides. At least his size matches his temper, for once.]

[Action 2; Around Town]

[By this point, Pokey is finally only one inch tall.

And has managed to climb up your mailbox, one of the drone!cats having followed him, apparently waiting for him on the ground. Being a drone!animal, the cat won't kill him of course, but it still scared the hell out of Pokey and caused him to seek sanctuary on your mailbox.

And of course, he's still taunting and make faces at the stupid cat. Although it's fairly hard to see.]

[Action; The Park]

[By this point, night has fallen and, reserved to his fate of being only an inch tall for at least the rest of the day, Pokey had managed to make it to one of the few places he actually likes in town. He can't fully explain as to why he likes the park, he just does.

And so, the one-inch jerk managed to climb on to the bench. And just sat there for a moment. And begins to speak. By this point, his voice is so light most people wouldn't be able to hear him. Unless they were also an inch tall and happened to be there, or there sense of hearing was good enough to hear such a small noise.

He's kind of counting on not being heard for what he has to say, after all.]

....Hi.

[Pokey cringes, rubbing his shoulder a little, before looking back into nothingness.]

Wow. That was stupid. I mean you're not even here, and I don't think anyone can hear me but...I guess it felt stupid just not saying it. I dunno why. I guess I had to, even though you're the only person who knows who I'm talking to.

Anyway, I guess I just wanted to say....thanks. For when you were here. I'd really gotten used to people not noticing me. Or not caring. Or only noticing when I did the wrong thing and fighting with me. And for a time, that was enough. But you were the first person in a long time to actually...I dunno. Talk with me. Actually talk with me, and want me to be a part of something. You didn't push, not really, but you kept asking. And it was the first time I'd actually had someone else-another kid, at least-show interest in me doing anything with them.

That meant a lot. I mean....a whole lot. More than you can ever know. And I never really did get to tell you how much, or pay you back and...I guess that's kind of a lost cause, huh? You've been gone a year now, I think. It was around this time, I'm pretty sure.

I'm sorry I didn't get to do more for you, or that I doubted your sincerity at first. Heh, I've been saying "sorry" a lot this week. It kinda sucks. Least you're one of the people it's more bearable to say it to.

[And he just pauses for a moment again, staring out into space. The world looks so much bigger from his current height. It's weirdly beautiful, in a way.]

Just wanted to say thanks. I guess. I'm trying to show my thanks more in how I act, but I suck at it. I'll get better. Maybe. Hopefully.

I hope you're okay, wherever you are.

[And another pause.]

I miss you.

[And then he finally just falls quiet, looking into the darkness and hoping he was right that no one else could hear him.]

[Slugger leans closer, aiming an ear at Pokey to hear his tiny voice, then looks toward the cat. This is... really kind of hilarious, he can't help but realize. Stepping away, he moves toward the cat, but rather than chase it off, he picks it up with a grin.]

This cat?

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2011-10-27 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Frowning. Frooooooooown.]

Put it down you jerk!

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-10-27 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[What's that, Pokey? You want to pet the kitty? Why sure! Alright, no, he's not going to do that. He'll just pat the cat's head and set it back down, much to the cat's dismay.

So, then. How to deal with this. Slugger is fairly sure this will wear off like the other strange things that have been happening all over town recently. He's also pretty certain Pokey would like to get down from there so he offers a palm for his mouse-sized friend to board should he decide it's a good idea.]

'Kay, climb on.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2011-10-27 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[It probably says something that Pokey actually instinctively just walks onto your hand Slugger. He doesn't bother to hesitate, he actually trusts you enough to do so.]

Good. 'Bout time you stopped screwing around, because this isn't funny.

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-10-27 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[In the back of Slugger's mind, he's still a bit surprised at the lack of any hesitation whatsoever. Somehow, this makes him want to be extra careful. He holds his hand closer to his grinning face and tries not to blow you over when he speaks.]

It's funny. Just not for you.

[Of course, it'll stop being funny if Pokey shrinks anymore than this, or gets accidentally smashed, or eaten by a bird, or falls from somewhere, or gets lost, or countless other things that can go horribly wrong. But things like that are the last things you should be thinking about so he'll just play as if everything's cool.]

Where to?

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2011-10-27 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Honestly? Pokey's kind of surprised at how willing he was too, but like hell he'd act like that.]

Yeah? That's just the way things have been all week. Sheesh. Think I'd get a break at least once.

[Play it cool huh? Pokey will just lay down on Slugger's hand, putting his arms behind his head to rest before shrugging.]

I'm thirsty. Make yourself useful and take me in for a drink.

Super late, sorry

[identity profile] strike-you-out.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Little twerp. But Slugger will do as told with a smirk on his face and carries Pokey into the house where he'll set him on the kitchen counter, take a bottle of Coca-Cola from the fridge, then set it beside Pokey like a towering building. At which point he'll step away with a wide grin.]

Go ahead.

Re: Super late, sorry

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Glowering. Just glowering with all the fury a Pokey only an inch or so tall can muster.

He's pushing the bottle now, but it isn't to get a drink. He's going to smash it on the floor by pushing it over, just to spite you.]
