Riddles

Hey, you know what I love? Being droned for a week and a half for absolutely no friggin' reason. No. That's just great.

Anyway, I'm bored, so lets play a game. Got a riddle for you. Well, I guess it's more like a logic puzzle then a riddle, but they're close enough to be the same thing. Whatever. So here it is:

Three duelists are standing off against one another. Technically, everything about each duelist seems similar: each has a gun and is the same distance apart from the others. Despite this, each duelist has a different possibility of hitting his opponents. Duelist A has a 90% chance of firing and hitting either oppoennt. Duelist B, however, only has a 60% chance of firing and hitting an opponent.

You are Duelist C. You have a 30% chance of firing and hitting either opponent. You can't run; running will have both of them automatically draw their guns on you. So you have to stay and do something. So, the question is who do you fire at in order to survive?

"You can get droned for no reason?

Also do they only get one shot each?"

[identity profile] enviousmath.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Are the guns exactly the same?

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure do! Most of the time they have a reason, but not always. Lucky me, I got droned for god knows what.

Yep. Each gun only gets one shot.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Each is a revolver, one shot per gun.

[identity profile] armywithcountry.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
What a stupid question. Thirty percent? If I fire at something, you can bet your ass that I'm going to hit it, every single damn time!

[identity profile] kihihi-witch.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Kyakya! Maria would wait and watch them shoot each other!

[She thinks. Revolvers aren't prone to jamming...]

Are the bullets inside exactly alike to?

I think I may have an answer, but what are guns?

[identity profile] pants-yourmove.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's pretty terrible.

How about you shoot at neither? Miss in a big way. Make it obvious you're terrible and they don't have a reason to gun for you?"

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, okay. See, it's a hypothetical question. It's not you personally firing, but the character you're playing as. Your own skill isn't part of the question.

That's pretty much right. You shoot to miss. This doesn't mean you won't be aimed at forsure, but it reduces it pretty heavily.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
They are.

[Filtered] He doesn't even realize it is!

"Also, if you can't fight you probably shouldn't have gotten into that mess to begin with I guess.

I'd have probably run though long before we got the guns out to tell you the truth. There's no point to duels, they looked cool but they were kind of dumb."

[identity profile] enviousmath.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[...]

I would run. When they aim and fire, duck down to the ground to avoid the bullet. Now neither of them has a bullet and I do. Then just ask them "which one of you wants to die".

[identity profile] armywithcountry.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Then why even shoot at all? If I'm going to be that weak, I don't have any business being in a duel in the first place! If someone aims at me, I'll kill them first, but otherwise let them fight it out themselves.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah? What would you do if they decided to shoot you instead?

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a weapon that fires a projectile called a bullet. Because of the velocity its picks up, as well as the fact that it expands and explodes on contact, it's incredibly lethal.

Guess not, but it's a hypothetical question, so who cares?

Duels are awesome, I don't know what you're going on about.

[Not that the kid has ever been IN one.]

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh.

That isn't the usual answer, but hey, I like it.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
How are you going to kill them if they aim at you? You only have a thirty percent chance of hitting?

[identity profile] enviousmath.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Then what would you do, Pokey?

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd fire to miss. Now that I've shown them I'm no threat, any reason to draw on me is negated and they'd fire on each other.

[identity profile] off-beet.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I see.

Well then, I suppose I would shoot the light.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright. Let me rectify this.

The duel is happening outside. Usually in a field, but occasionally in a town square or something.

Though, alright, if it was happening indoors, that'd be a good plan. Most won't though.

[identity profile] armywithcountry.livejournal.com 2010-12-06 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Please. I don't need a gun to beat the shit out of people. They won't even have time to fire. Besides, it's not like I haven't been shot before.
