Because I Couldn' Stop for Death

[Well Pokey has had a busy week. Tripping balls over hallucinogenic gas. Bothering a bunch of people and running through their yards as he tried to get away from his hallucination. Getting beaten to death. Beating to death the drone of the person who beat him to death. Getting droned for beating that person to death.

Needless to say, getting killed and then killing someone in the span of a few days has brought a question to mind.]

Hey. Yeah. I’m curious.

Like I know we don’t die here, not really since we come back…what do you all think happens to us after we really do die? Like, do you believe in a Heaven and Hell and all that jazz, or something else, or nothing at all?

Ha! Weirdest and funniest runt I've ever met!

I'll give ya a little mythology lesson, squirt. Asgard, or really it's 'Ásgarðr' means 'Enclosure of the Æsir'. It's the home of the Gods, in short. To the Christian man, it's heaven. Inside this place you've got two major places, Valhalla and Fólkvangr. ...Ya still followin'?

[Mumble mumble pout pout I am not a runt. But he gets over it in a minute.]

Yeah, I can follow that.

Great. Now ya got Fólkvangr, the 'field of the host' or 'people-field or army-field'. This is ruled over by Freyja. When warriors die, she gets half of 'em and they stay with her. Her place is also open to women who've suffered a noble death, or so they say. It's a lil' tricky to explain when ya've never been there yerself, so bear with an old man.

The other half of the warriors go to Odin's Valhalla. Ya see, that's where a lot of warriors want to end up. The Valkyries, servants of the Gods, are always lookin' for the souls of strong and brave warriors. Warriors worthy of becoming Einherjar. Only those who lived in battle, and died in battle are allowed to cross Bifrost and live in that great hall in Asgard. The question is how ya fought, and how ya died--The stronger yer enemies, the better.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh.

So what do Einherjar do?

[identity profile] ponypuncher.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
They prepare for Ragnarök and eventually head to Vígríðr where the forces of the Gods and the forces of Surtr clash.

...You're making stuff up to pick on me, aren't you?

[identity profile] ponypuncher.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would I make this stuff up?

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would it be real? It sounds more like a fantasy story then most religions and junk.

[identity profile] ponypuncher.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Who's to say that Christian god and his 'son' are real? Turning water into wine? That sounds more like a story.

I didn't say I believed in that either. Just that, like, a bunch of guys dying just so they can fight and die again is pretty out there.

Even if it is pretty awesome sounding.

It's better than sitting around surrounded by puffy white clouds with a pair of tiny little wings, isn't it?
