Because I Couldn' Stop for Death

[Well Pokey has had a busy week. Tripping balls over hallucinogenic gas. Bothering a bunch of people and running through their yards as he tried to get away from his hallucination. Getting beaten to death. Beating to death the drone of the person who beat him to death. Getting droned for beating that person to death.

Needless to say, getting killed and then killing someone in the span of a few days has brought a question to mind.]

Hey. Yeah. I’m curious.

Like I know we don’t die here, not really since we come back…what do you all think happens to us after we really do die? Like, do you believe in a Heaven and Hell and all that jazz, or something else, or nothing at all?

Well okay thanks for the answer that gave me absolutely nothing.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
You asked what I thought and I gave you my answer.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah well...

It was a lame answer. JUST a desert? That's all?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I told you. You have to cross the desert. I was only there for a short while and I didn't feel like dying all that much so I didn't go and find out.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
So effectively, you should have died.

But you just decided not to. That's what you're telling me.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
No.

It's a long stoy but I was only helping something get there. It wasn't my time to die then.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Helping someone get where? To the desert so they could die?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

It was a creature called a Hiver. You probably haven't heard of it.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you're right.

I haven't. What is it?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's a bit hard to explain. A Hiver is something like a bodyless mind. They can't be seen but you can hear them faintly. They're a parastic creature and take over the mind and body of the person they've targeted. It eventually destroys the person and goes to a new host.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
...Okay. I can sort of follow that. Yeah, not really a surprise you had to get rid of it even if it sounds pretty awesome...

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
What? That's stupid.

No one wants to die.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
It did.

A Hiver is completly and utterly aware of everything around them.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Okay.

And that'd be bad because?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Because when I mean everything. I mean everything. Every single blade of grass, every colour, every drop of water, they're all spotted by the Hiver. It is aware of everything and anything. It's torture for it and so it tries to jump into the body of something less aware of the world. Like an animal or a human.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Okay.

But if you were that aware, wouldn't it be an advantage? That way, you'd never get hurt, or taken advantage of, and you could always be a step ahead of everything else.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
If you could control it. However it's more like being dumped with a bucket of water and being told to pick out one drop.

And a hiver has no use for anything. It has no body, no brain, no thoughts. They only have memory. They know how to 'crave and fear'. That is all.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, that sounds uncomfortably familiar to something he knows.]

Then...how do you know it WANTED to die?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I was able to communicate with it. It possessed me for a while and because of that I managed to help find a part of it that was itself.

It just wanted to learn how to end. How to die.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Because it wished for death?

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Just everything you told me about it. It sounded like an utterly pathetic thing to the end.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Some people would call it that.
