In Which Pokey Gets To Work [Action]

[Well, that was an idiotic diversion he didn't have time for. Pokey hardly understood what possible point the Soviet event could have had aside from agitating the living hell out of him. It was a pointless excursion in suffering, and even he thought the reason people were being killed was more or less pointless. Of course, he still got off worse than all of those who even died; after all, he had to go back to school, an entirely pointless bit of drudgery for him.

Now that they were back in Mayfield, it was time for him to start getting a lay of the land. Getting as much paper as he could of any type and a few pencils, he headed outside to begin his slow, but necessary work. He'd start around his own house and street, drawing and graphing the surrounding area. Mapping the terrain was going to be necessary if he wanted to form a full plan for battle or action.]

[OOC: Throughout the day, Pokey is going to be going from house to house and street to street mapping the area. Feel free to confront him about what he's doing or how he's invading your privacy as he messes around on your lawn, in your backyard, in the trees near your house as he tries to peer into the second story to get an idea of whose their, ect. While this will mainly affect Ricardo Street, feel free to bump into him anywhere since this'll be affecting the entire town.]

[Offers her hand to help him up, looking at his work.]

"Mapping the town, right? That's the first thing I did when I got here, too."

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[He looks at the hand, but doesn't take it. At the same time, he doesn't slap it away from him like he usually would.]

Really? Well at least someone else here isn't a total idiot.

[He thinks for a minute, biting his lip a bit.]

Any chance we can compare when I'm finished. It'd be better to compare maps with someone else prisoner here than the maps provided by our captors.

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, I don't mind. I've been sharing them around. No sense in keeping it all to myself, right? I mean, we're all in the same boat here.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmhm.

[He actively fights wanting to talk about how it's every man for himself. He might lose his chance to get a comparison model.

Hesitantly, he holds his hand out.]

Pokey Minch, boy genius. Who're you?

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Eagerly shakes his hand.]

"Kay Faraday, thief of truth!"

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[The irritation melts away to be replaced by amusement.]

Thief of truth? What does that mean? You steal truths? An information broker, perhaps.....?

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I steal evidence. The legal system's got limitations, so sometimes you need to work outside it to get the really slippery bad guys.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
...Wouldn't evidence obtained that way get dismissed? I mean, you got it through theft.

And yeah, the legal system sucks, but there are other loopholes you can use to screw it that are perfectly legal. Most of the time.

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. Normally it would. But if the thief is working alongside the prosecutor, that changes things, doesn't it?

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shakes his head slightly, confused.]

Nooooo...well, it changes things in that the prosecutor should be loosing his license. I mean, I'm all up for stealing crap, and screwing people over through it and yada-yada-yada, but I'd think most lawyers wouldn't be that happy with it.

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I guess everybody does things their own way.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shrugs.]

Good enough for me. I'm no big fan of "authority" or "rules" myself anyway.

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
...So, yeah, I don't mind comparing notes whenever you're done. The more information we have, the better.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally works for me. Hopefully I'll have it done by today or tomorrow if I can keep moving. Where can I find you?

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I live over on Brady. Crawford residence. Look for the giant turtle in the back yard.

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. His name is Bowser. He used to talk and stuff, but he got droned a while ago and never came back.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shudders at that, looking a little afraid.]

It...it can be permanent for us? I mean...I've only been here a few days but...it seemed like it only lasted a little while when used on us.

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Sometimes people get droned and just sort of... stay that way. Usually they'll get replaced by someone new after a while.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That...makes droning a lot more terrifying.

...You ever get droned? Know if you remember anything afterwards, or if you're aware at all, or what?

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, droning is used as a threat around here. I was droned once a few weeks ago. You remember everything you did while you were droned when you wake up from it, too.

The weird thing is, it's not always consistent. Sometimes people get droned for months and claim to have gone back home, but then they end up back here again.

Other times, the people who are permanently droned get replaced by another new arrival to town and just disappear entirely. But a lot of the time, they show back up too. Those times, they usually don't remember having been here at all.

I'm still trying to figure it all out. There's got to be a pattern to it, but something is missing.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
...That's...absurd.

[He shrugs, helpless.]

Maybe there isn't a pattern to it. Maybe whoever's controlling the whole thing is just getting his jollies from it, and it's meant to be meaningless. Maybe it's meant to throw us for a loop entirely.

...I mean, if there really is someone controlling what's going on here, and not just the town itself.

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people seem to think there's a machine somewhere powering all this. Others say it's magic. I'm not so sure myself, but I think there'll probably be some answers in the Mayor's office.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That'd be the best outcome, if it's something we can actively work with.

[He hitches his stuff up a little.]

I should probably get my work finished.

....But it was...nice meeting you, Miss Fay.

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's Kay. But, yeah, nice to meet you.
