[At first, there's just silence over the phone, like someone knocked it over and forgot to put the receiver back up. Finally, after a few moments of this and of fake starts, Pokey finally speaks.]

So, with all the stupid age crap going on, I got a question for you people.

If you could stay one age, forever, would you? Or would you choose to keep aging?

Because, I mean, why wouldn't you want to stay the same age, right? I mean, it's pretty much immortality, and you wouldn't really miss out on anything by not getting older or anything. Really, you'd be doing better then them, right? So yeah.

Sorry, stupid question. Because it's not like anyone WOULDN'T take immortality when given the option. Because everyone would choose immortality.

Right?

Ya could ask me that a thousand times and my answer would still be the same; I'd rather keep aging. Ya imprint yerself on someone's memory and eventually yer name'll be passed around. Whether its through yer friends, family, or even stories yer gonna be buggin' people long after ya've gone and died.

Yeah, but if you never aged, you'd never die, so you wouldn't need others to remember you. You could still do whatever you wanted.

But if ya got yer head lopped off, immortality wouldn't do ya any good.

It depends on the means... [cause he really wouldn't wanna do it like Leaky Leota.]

But yes, if I agreed with them, I'd probably take it.

[pause]

If all of my friends were on board with it too.

Yeah-

Well-

That's why you find ways to get around that. Like, to keep it from happening and all. And if you're immortal, you've probably had enough time to think on it, so you know a way to cheat it.

Yeah, there's some crummy ways to achieve it. [Like the one he took, though he's only beginning to figure that out.]

Why would that matter? If you were immortal, why would you need anyone, really? I mean it's not....it can't be that great.

[Oh, it's the brat. ...But it's also a chance to tl;dr her opinions at someone who seems to want to listen. Why not?]

Immortality isn't meant for humans. For other beings that aren't human, I couldn't say, I am not one of them, and so that doesn't concern me.

Humans are not meant to live forever, are not meant to go on into eternity. It drives one slowly insane, and I say that from the personal experience of having met Her Majesty Queen Victoria as she approaches two hundred.

I want to live my life, short and sweet as it is, and die honestly at the appointed hour whatever it may be. My immortality will come in leaving a mark on the history books so vibrant that it will never be forgotten. I don't need to extend my life to see it come to fruition, but rather I resolve to do my best with the time I have.

That's stupid. There's no greater power then humans anyway, and if there is? They're jerks and they can suck it. They don't deserve anything I don't.

Then she couldn't have had that much willpower, then.

You people keep talking about making a mark, but not about seeing the mark you made yourself. So it's a pointless mark.

Aye, there's that but would ya really wanna go on like that while everyone ya knew died 'round ya? It wouldn't bother me too much, but yer still young. Eventually ya'd think people would start thinkin' somethin' was up and boom, yer an outcast just like that. Ya'd have no friends, no comrades--Ya'd probably be looked down upon like ya were dirt, too.

Well, what if this person was already looked at that way? So it's not like there'd be any LOSS for the guy to take immortality. Honestly, it'd be the one advantage he could have.

Everyone who wasn't insane or stupid. It's a living being's natural instincts to stay alive-but eternal life would eventually become inconvenient without eternal youth.

That's what I'm saying. You don't age with this type. So obviously, the best choice would be to take it when the opportunity was given to you, right?

Even loneliness? Ya'd go crazy if ya didn't have anyone to talk to.

Date: 2010-11-18 06:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com
Well okay then maybe you could...could talk to people, but just never, y'know, grow real close to them?

I mean, it's not like loneliness is that bad....

From: [identity profile] numbuh-one.livejournal.com
I agree, there are, but... how do you know about them?

I just don't want to stay a kid while all my friends grow up. It would be too weird. They'd have to go off and do stupid adult things, and they'd forget all about me because we're too different now. I'd miss them. The KND would give me a new team, but they'd grow up too. Eventually you'd just stop caring.

I just do. [Entirely accidentally, but he knows at least one way.]

Well why bother trusting in people in the first place? I mean, really, all that's going to happen is that they're eventually going to hurt you anyway. The best idea is to form...business relations, I guess. Acquaintances, instead of friends.

Exactly correct, although depending on some circumstances it might be better to wait, if possible-for example, if the age you are at the time didn't suit you because you were too young. But outside of that, I can't particularly think of a single case when refusing it would be a good choice.

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?

Date: 2010-11-18 06:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com
Yes. Just because someone isn't there to hear it doesn't mean physical laws no longer apply. Sound would still be created.

[Hypothetical questions? What the hell is that shit?]

From: [identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com
...Well, what if it wasn't initially expected? Like, you got what you wanted anyway, and when you wanted it, but you didn't THINK you'd get it? I mean, so, you didn't really have the chance to choose.

That still wouldn't be so bad.

Say you're immortal, what would you do if living became unbearable?

It wouldn't.

Hmm, I dunno. Wouldn't that get kinda boring after a while...?

Why would it? You could make your own fun whenever and however you pleased, for all time.

I don't think it could ever get...boring.

That's true, but... well, what about your friends?
